Come along with me, 3 of my new friends, and a dog names Pickles, on a 2 night backpacking trip on Catalina Island.

DAY ONE:
We took the ferry out to Avalon and started our hike along the trans catalina trail toward Blackjack Campground.
It was cloudy on the ferry ride and in the town of Avalon when we arrived, but as we started hiking the trail, the sun came out and it heated up fast. It is a tough climb out of Avalon especially in the sun and rising heat. My thermometer read 97 degrees at the hottest point in the day. We were low on water and struggling with the heat, so with the help of a ranger we made it Blackjack Campground.
We set up our tents and started making dinner when I noticed a swarm of bees on a branch of the tree that I set my tent up under, so I moved my tent.

DAY TWO:
In the morning we hiked to the airport in the sky where we enjoyed a hearty brunch, cold drinks and some shade. After leaving the airport, we hiked to out next campsite in Little Harbor. It was a sweet relief to be back below the clouds and in a cooler climate.
After setting up camp we all took a cold dip in the ocean, before heading back to camp, cooking dinner, and having a fire.
A bison came through the campground in the middle of the night and everyone else heard/saw it, and I slept through it.

DAY THREE:
3 of us had to catch the 11:45am ferry and we had 5.6 miles and 1,400ft elevation gain and loss, so we woke up early and set out at 6:45am.
We started hiking in the dark below the clouds, but as the morning went on and we climbed higher in elevation, we found ourselves above a sea of clouds with clear skied above.
We made it to Two Harbors ahead of schedule and had enough time to grab a meal in town before hopping on the ferry back.

HAPPY TRAILS!!!
